Chest Holsters
Chest holsters carry gear at the front of the upper body while keeping the belt area clear. They are useful for outdoor use, hunting, backcountry travel and situations with packs or hip belts.
Check ride height, strap adjustment and hand orientation. The holster should stay reachable, sit securely and work with jackets or other equipment.
Chest Holster FAQs
Common chest holster questions. Straight answers.
Will a chest holster work with a backpack?
That is the main reason many people move to chest carry. It keeps the holster above the waist belt, but you should still adjust the harness with your actual pack on so the sternum strap and shoulder straps do not fight the holster.
Is a chest holster comfortable for a long hike?
It can be, as long as the straps sit flat and the holster does not bounce. Most comfort problems come from wearing it too loose, letting it ride too high, or not re-adjusting after adding a jacket or pack.
Should I choose leather or Kydex for a chest holster?
Leather is quieter and breaks in with use, while Kydex keeps a rigid shape and handles wet weather well. For hunting and backcountry use, the better choice usually comes down to weather, firearm fit, and how much retention you want.
Can I sit, ride an ATV, or ride horseback with a chest holster?
Yes. Chest carry is useful when a hip holster gets blocked by a seat, saddle, waders, or a pack belt. Before a full day out, test the draw position while seated and while wearing your normal outer layer.
